Construction on Bridgewater's new police station has hit a snag. Members of the police commission and town council met Tuesday night in an in-camera session to talk about the latest development. Town manager Ken Smith says it was to provide information to staff and get legal direction now that the contractor says the former MacKenzie bus property is far more contaminated than originally thought. The site off Victoria road was chosen over another location next to the former Dawson Memorial hospital on Dufferin street. Although there was suspected contaminants in the Victoria road location it was found to be worse than thought after several test areas were unearthed last week by the contractor. The initial plan was to spend an additional 100-thousand dollars to remediate the site to bring it up to residential standards. But it sounds like the cost to do that may be at the heart of the latest delay in building a replacement for the current, crowded police station below the town hall.

I live in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and I'm a server at a pub called the Crickets Harp Inn, and we are currently hosting an Open Mic Talent Search every Tuesday for 10 weeks, it has already started and is into it's third week tomorrow.

If you are in a band or know of a band that trying to get out there, this could be a good opportunity for you. They are offering a prize package full of all kind of goodies to the winner, including some studio time with Tim Feswick Recording Company.

It starts at 8 pm in the pub every Tuesday, you/your band will play about 1/2 an hour (about 5 songs) for the Crickets Harp audience, at the end of the night the audience will pick which band will be coming back for the finalist round(the last 2 of the 10 weeks).

There are some rules also, you and any member of your band have to be 19 years or older. You can not have already released a cd. You have to have some original music, you can't preform all covers from other bands (but a one or two is alright). Voice synthesizers are not allowed. No big drum sets. No taped music.

Everything else is welcome.

If you have any other questions or if your interested in signing up, you can call The Crickets Harp Pub at (902)354-4000.

The Crickets Harp Pub can be found at 149 Main St. Liverpool. If you live in the area and want to check us out.

I'm from Bridgewater

I used to live in Bridgewater, but I moved away to Toronto. I lived there for 13 years, but moved when I was 15. I am now 24 and was in Bridgewater this past summer and enjoyed it so much. You really miss being able to totally relax and enjoy the quietness. And being able to go to the ocean in just a quick 15 min drive. Can't do that in Toronto. Unless you wanna go in Lake Ontario and grow a third arm or something?!? I'll be back again not too far from now i'm sure. And I can't wait :)

More public meetings are being held next week to gather still more input from residents on the proposed joint multi-purpose facility for Lunenburg County. Elmer Garber, Deputy-Warden for the Municipality of Lunenburg who is co-chair of the Steering Committee says it's another step in moving the process along.

Both Councils for the Municipality and Town of Bridgewater approved a request for proposals for the Capital Funding Feasibility Study and Implementation Plan. Garber says there are two things that have to be done.

The public meetings will be held at Parkview next Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, November 16th and 17th at 6;30 p.m.
